What is synchronicity? (You may wish to read through this article more than once to gain full value of its meaning.)
The word ‘synchronicity’ was first coined by one of the most well known psychologists in history, Dr. Carl Jung. Dr. Jung was unique in his day as he was a both a student of traditional psychology and researcher of esoteric and metaphysical studies – including alchemy, astrology, etc.
He realized the value of strict unbiased testing AND was open to the possibilities offered by eastern cultures, religions, and philosophies. Even the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was largely developed from his theories and main work from the concept of archetypes and the masks that we wear mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
According to Jung, synchronicity was defined as a ‘meaningful coincidence’. For example, you think of someone and then all-of-a-sudden, you see that person in front of you or hear from that person in the exact moment or within moments of thinking of him/her.
Another common examples includes: People who are thinking of buying a specific kind of car, who then begin to see that car everywhere. Left-brain thinkers and the like would argue that these ‘synchronicities’ are just luck or chance. But in quantum physics, and according to many ancient masters, teachers, and sifus who are not just bound by the left-brain, synchronicity is a part of creation itself.
The more that we learn about the law of attraction, laws of creation, law of opposites, law of cause and effect, and the law of gender, the more we begin to see that Dr. Jung was far ahead of his time and in truth is far more revered now than he ever was in his own lifetime. That is the basic history of how the concept of synchronicity came to be.
The understanding of synchronicity however, continues much more deeply.
Human beings perceive life according to a scale of awareness and consciousness. At the lower end there are those who have little to no awareness of what is going on around them or within themselves, while those at the higher end are in a heightened state of awareness both outside of and within themselves. All humans, regardless of where we might be on that scale at any given moment have the capacity to move up or down the scale and as such experience very different types of lives.
Those at the higher levels tend to experience more peace, calm, security, and clear mindedness. Those at the lower levels tend to experience more worry, anxiety, frustration, and depression. Those at the higher levels may at times fall down the scale, those at the lower levels may at times move up the scale. Either way, no matter where you are in the moment there is a strong likelihood that you will move up and down the scale for most of your lifetime.
The interesting piece here and how this scale relates to the idea of synchronicity is that as you experience life at higher and higher levels on the scale and therefore higher levels of awareness and consciousness you begin to see the interconnectedness of all things, the perfection/ perfectness/oneness of all the elements that we would normally perceive as separate if we were lower on the scale. Therefore, the higher you move up the scale, the more synchronicity you experience.
It is easy to see this in daily living. If you are in a happy state, you tend to go with the flow more and there tends to be more flow. Similarly, when in a joyful or happy state you tend to be more open to ideas and therefore experience greater insight. Being higher up on the scale is really where it is as as that is the ultimate state of allowing, flow, clarity, peace, prosperity, abundance, love, and connection.
An easy way to see this is to go to googlemaps or googleearth and start very close to the exact street on which you live or work. Then, zoom out. As you continue to zoom out, you no longer see the separation of streets, borders, countries etc., all you see is one Earth. There is no separation from that broader vantage point. This is the same with life itself.
As you begin to notice the perfection/perfectness/ oneness and perfect order in life, you begin to see life differently and as a result feel that essentially “all is well” because looking through the eyes of oneness all is one and all is well…
Through eyes of separation, rather than from a oneness perspective, there is separateness. There is no longer an our, there is a yours and a mine. From this perspective we forget that we are all connected and instead see the differences between us, between our skin colours, countries, choices, values, and genders.
However, the more in synch we are, or put another way, the higher we are along the scale, the higher/purer our vibration… and as a result we get into the place of oneness and as a result attract oneness, or from that perspective… we experience synchronicity!
This means that synchronicity is simply an indicator or evidence that you are at a higher level on the scale – high enough that you are noticing how ‘things’ are (inter)connected.
As we spend more time at the higher levels of that scale, we experience the shifting into oneness more and more, despite also seemingly coming out of it, and therefore we begin to develop greater certainty of our inevitability of being in that oneness place and through our certainty attract more of it.
With the gratitude and awe of feeling as if you are one with all things, you open up even more because of the inspiration of it and then the more inspired and in awe of it the more it opens up.
To sum this all up…
The experience of synchronicity is similar to the analogy of moving up through the atmosphere – at the base level there may be great cloudiness, then, as you rise above the clouds (as you may have experienced when you last flew on a plane) there is a clear sky, then you move up further above the Earth and begin to see the Earth from an even broader spectrum perspective. Going higher you see the interconnectedness of the Earth with the solar system and realize the connection between planets… all the while remembering where you began.
This is oneness … what synchronicity truly reflects!
